2 Dimensional barcodes

Quick Response codes or QR codes as they are more commonly called are two dimensional barcodes that are gain popularity among business and society for their variability and ease of use. Although QR codes are most popular, there are other 2 dimensional barcodes on the market today. Along with the Quick Response code, there are lesser known two dimensional barcodes. These barcodes only differ in their appearance. The Quick Reponses code for example has a white background with a unique graphic design. Other barcodes also a white background but the black graphic design differs among the codes. For example one type of two dimensional barcode has a black circular design for their graphic while another one incorporates circles and squares for the graphic.

History of the Barcode:

Barcodes were first used in the railroad industry. Their main use was to track the different train carts. Although efficient, they were not as popular as they are today. Barcodes first gain popular usage when they started being applied to groceries and produce. Meat and grocery items would have a unique bar code associated to them and this would be scanned. Once scanned, the price of the grocery would be stored onto the computer. This made the usage of barcodes in the grocery stores almost universal.
